Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how FaveReader collects, uses, and stores information when you use the service. By using FaveReader, you agree to this Policy.
Information we collect
- Google account information. If you sign in with Google, we receive information made available by Google through OAuth, such as your name, email address, and profile picture.
- Account identifier. We derive an internal user ID from your email address using a one-way hash. We use this identifier to associate your private library, reading progress, and preferences with your account.
- Uploaded EPUBs. Private uploads and, if you publish to the Public Library, public uploads are stored on the server so you can read and manage them.
- Reading data. For signed-in users, we store reading progress and display preferences (such as font, theme, and text-to-speech rate). Guests who read public books may store progress locally in the browser.
- Usage analytics. If enabled by the site operator, we use Google Analytics to collect aggregated usage data such as pages visited and general device or browser information.
- Server logs. Like most web services, our hosting environment may record technical information such as IP address, request time, and user agent for security and troubleshooting.
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Provide sign-in, libraries, reading, and account settings
- Enforce upload limits and who may publish to the Public Library
- Maintain, secure, and improve the service
- Understand aggregate usage when analytics is enabled
We do not sell your personal information.
Storage and retention
Account data, uploaded EPUBs, and reading progress are stored on infrastructure controlled by the site operator. We retain this information while your account remains account remains active and as needed to operate the service. You may delete individual books from your library; contact the site operator if you need broader account data removed.
Cookies and similar technologies
FaveReader uses session cookies and related technologies to keep you signed in and to operate the site. Google Analytics, when enabled, may also use cookies or similar technologies as described in Google's documentation.
Third-party services
- Google Sign-In — authentication is handled by Google. Google's privacy practices are governed by Google's own policies.
- Google Analytics — when enabled, usage data is processed by Google. You can learn about Google's practices at policies.google.com/privacy.
Public Library content
Books in the Public Library are made available for reading. We do not require an account to read them. Public book metadata and files may be cached or transmitted to your device like any other content you request from the site.
Children's privacy
FaveReader is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the service, contact the site operator so it can be removed.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the latest revision.
